After reading around in other forums, the audio issue could be related to Intel graphics drivers. I am unable properly install the integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics drivers also. As shown in the attached image, the Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation mark on 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' and 'High Definition Audio Controller'. Apple says that the HD Graphics 5000 in the new MacBook Air is 40 percent faster than Intel HD Graphics 4000 found in the previous MacBook Air. Macworld Lab will be testing this claim as part of.

I doubt that Apple disables the maximum GPU resolution, and I don't think that a firmware update will be released for that. Instead, as you can see, it looks like Y-processors don't support a resolution higher than 2560x1600, so it's possible that the MacBook Air comes with one of those processors
